We celebrate Domestic Violence in the Music Industry and Cleveland’s Own Michelle Knight is a survivor; 5 years free.

This week has been a whirlwind of emotion for me, and I am just a person that cares, not a relative or close acquaintance of the following women, along with that, you’ll find that abuse encompasses all age groups.

Stylist Emily B was allegedly assaulted by her rapper husband John David Jackson alias, Fabolous; she reported that he beat her so severely that he knocked her front teeth so loose that there was no way to repair them, as a result they had to be removed. Yet, within a week or less they were spotted at Coachella and she has since posted a picture to Instagram with new veneers. The first assumption by many was that there is no way on earth Fabolous could do this. fabolous-emily-b

Cuban Doll alias CubanDaSavage is a well known rapper with over 1 million followers on Instagram, she is 20 years old and just Saturday she was assaulted (allegedly) by her rapper boyfriend (it’s not clear if he is her ex) Tadoe just for laughing and talking to another man. Her beautiful face is battered and bruised and people are in the comment section happy that her face is disfigured. I had to unfollow some of my favorite Instagram posters because they were celebrating her misfortune. Truly sickening.

Could it be that maybe they are tired of what they feel is the bait and hook? The women complain about the abuse and then go back? Femcee Rocky Badd even felt a level of justification, because when she mentioned the abuse in her Cuban Doll diss song, no one believed her. In conjunction, she took to Instagram and bounced her behind to the diss track when the news hit that Cuban had been assaulted. I found that disgusting and disturbing because It’s not our place to judge the situation; there are way too many scenarios.

Michelle Knight.. the survivor! 5 years later

Michelle Knight has a new name and from this day forward I will call her by the one that she has designated for herself; Lily Rose Lee. Lily is promoting her new book “Life After Darkness” and she is recently married. She went through untold horrors in that house including physical, mental and basic human rights like showering being taking away. She seems to be doing reasonably well despite her circumstances and continues to help women that are being abused and trafficked. She is truly reflective of her name.

Interview with Ohio’s Own Actress- Heather Rich

Lights, Camera, Action

When I asked to interview Heather Rich, I had no idea that she is a somewhat seasoned actress that is very compelling while at work.

Heather Rich has come up against many obstacles that she has overcome, but has shattered stereotypes along the way. She grew up in a single parent household in which she is 1 of 4. Her mother always worked 3 jobs to care for the family and battled stage 4 cancer. Can you imagine the responsibilities that came along with that as a young child? Still Heather persevered.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Heather began exploring theater while in the 5th grade and won the lead role as Peter Pan! Her determination has lead her to act in at least 8 roles, the most current role as “Lyric” of the stage play and movie “Jason’s Lyric; In addition she is also seen in the YouTube series “Upstairs”  Episode 102 around mark 06:20. The role is charming, romantic and we get to see her act vulnerably as well. I couldn’t stop smiling.

To contact Heather you can reach her here on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and watch her work on YOUTUBE.

Heather so graciously answered my interview questions:

Q1: How do you prepare for roles:

A: I turn all of my lines into a song; for character development I study the person I am assigned to emulate their voice, movement and style.

Q2: What kind of actor would you describe yourself as:

A: Well rounded, emotional

Q3: Is the competition for roles high in Ohio?

A: Very high, competition is good, makes a person better, and want to work harder.

Heather does not currently have an agent but is open to representation.

Must Visit: Severance Hall

Visiting Severance Hall is a culturally enriching and enlightening experience.

It is a beautifully constructed building in the inside as well as the outside. It boasts marble floors and limestone construction. It is also home to the world renowned Cleveland Orchestra which plays and pays homage to classical composers such as Brahms, Beethoven and Suk. Magnificent! The architectural influences are art deco with a nod to Egyptian culture.

Seating: Severance Hall is a visually appealing experience wherever one may choose to sit. ( I was worried about that since I like to see the passion in a musicians eyes.)

Dress Code: There is no dress code, many patrons dress down but on my recent visit I decided to make it an experience and go on the formal side simply because I love an excuse to get dolled up and wear a beautiful clutch.

Severance Hall’s address is 11001 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Click here for concert times and dates.

Take a date, they’ll appreciate the gesture.

Tupac Pens DISS letter to MAJOR hip hop stars

Tupac Shakur/ Makaveli was on one with this letter.

The handwritten lyrics meant as a precursor to his album entitled Makaveli “Kilimunati” The 7 Day Theory is currently up for auction for the first time and was controversially sold by a close family member. It’s safe to say the jabs are personal.

In the at least 20 year old letter he disses Puffy a.k.a P. Diddy, Faith Evans, Jay Z, Wendy Williams and Biggie to name a few.

It’s hardcore. Tupac refers to it as “Wartime”; I think the letter is cringeworthy seeing as Tupac isn’t alive to defend himself. What are your thoughts?

Beyonce’s Temperley London Dress

http://www.labelmeposh.com

I love dresses, the look for this spring is romantic. The trend is flirty,  feminine and pastel. A look that’s always in style to me.

Beyonce has embodied those characteristics with her sheer, floaty, dreamy Temperley London “Starling” dress that she wore on Instagram.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The details in this dress are dainty and soft. The dress is a vanilla hue, the embroidered birds that cover the dress are adorned with sequins, and it has a ruffled bodice. She finished the look off with Tom Ford shoes. The look is beautiful and the design house that it hails from is one of Kate Middleton’s favorites.

You can dress like Beyonce here.

Interview with N.Y.A. MARIE – Ohio’s Own

NYA Marie is so dope that out of her name and pain came an acronym that hints at her past .

Screenshot_20180322-221641

N.Y.A. stands for Not.Yours.Anymore; this is not a story of woe, but one of triumph! She turned lemons into lemonade by breathing life into her music. A particular song out of her catalog “When It Comes” is refreshing,  and rhymed over a melodic, cool beat that encourages her listeners to fight through the storm because change is underway. The beauty in her message is that her wordplay and the accompanying video makes us believe her. TAKE A LOOK HERE.

Peer into N.Y.A. Marie’s thoughts with her answers to my questions:

Q1. Where do you see yourself creatively in 3 years?

N.Y.A. Marie: “I want to be at a point where I’m able to channel different levels of expression, through visual art via photography, as well as tapping into different genres of music- reaching different people.”

Q2. Do you have any advice for younger women in the industry?

N.Y.A. Marie: “Never give up, be persistent, BE FEARLESS! Stand out and be different- BE YOU!”

Q3: Describe your musical content in 3 words

N.Y.A. Marie: Strong. Emotional. Raw

Indeed. We look forward to hearing more from N.Y.A. Marie.
